Description: NOTE: The metadata for the feature classes in this file geodatabase were created using FGDC. If viewing in ArcGIS 10, you will need to activate and navigate to the "FGDC Metadata" tab to view the full metadata. For details on how to do this, see:http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcgisdesktop/10.0/help/index.html#/Choosing_a_metadata_style/003t00000009000000/--------------------------------------------------------------A comprehensive point layer of communities within California was compiled by combining the Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) extract of Populated Places with communities at risk (from comatrisk11_1) that were not already represented in the GNIS database.Communities that have CWPPs submitted to myfirecommunity neighborhood as a community, county or unit wide CWPP are flagged in the attribute "CWPP". CALFIRE reviewed all submitted CWPPs to best determine the communities that are included in a plan. CWPPs may be at the Unit (unt), County (cnt) or community (com) level. If a community is covered by more than one CWPP, than the most local level supersedes. So for example, Humboldt county has a CWPP, but the community of Honeydew also has a CWPP, so that community is labeled as having a community level CWPP instead of a county level CWPP. If an entire county maintains a CWPP than all communities within that county were flagged, but it may be up to the user to determine whether larger, incorporated communities within those counties are truly covered by the county-wide CWPP. The myfirecommunity neighborhood is intended as repository and overview of Community Wildfire Protection Plans in California. This is not a forum for CWPP approval or authentication, but provides agencies and stakeholders with a consolidated CWPP resource list and helps build a more comprehensive view of CWPP planning and collaboration throughout the state.CWPPs can be viewed at: http://www.myfirecommunity.net/Neighborhood.aspx?ID=888.CWPP dates are included in the database. If the plan did not include a day of the month than the first of the month was automatically used.Communities at risk are flagged in the attribute "CAR" with a "yes" based on the comatrisk11_1 data. Actual CAR locations may vary between the two datasets because the GNIS dataset was used as the master for the point locations, so they are not always the same as the comatrisk data locations.Communities recognized as FIREWISE are flagged in the "FIREWISE" attribute with the date that they were recognized as FIREWISE based on http://submissions.nfpa.org/firewise/fw_communities_list.php. The number of communities listed in on the national firewise site may not be consistant with this database because community names by be represented differently. For example, in some cases national list may combine two communities like Banner Mountain/Yankee Hill, while this database shows those as two seperate communties. Communities that have submitted applications to CAL FIRE are recognized as FIREWISE communities. If the community was a FIREWISE community but did not renew their application than the "FIREWISE" attribute will show it as inactive.Population was added from the census 2010 (cenPL2010_11_1_1). Only communities that have a PLACEFP10 identification in the census were given population numbers. Communities that are located inside of incorporated boundaries are labeled in the "Incorporated" attribute with the name of the incorporated city boundary that the point falls within.
