Description: This insect and disease risk map was generated by the USDA Forest Service Forest Health Protection program (FHP) and divided into 4 catagories of risk by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protections Fire and Resource Assessment Program (FRAP). FHP established a multi-criterion framework to facilitate a standardized modeling approach across all forest health regions and create a seamless final Insect and Disease Risk product. Model criteria and parameters vary across the landscape for each host type. Scientific literature, professional knowledge, and statistical data form the basis for the development of the host-specific models. Input criteria for the models include: stand density index (SDI), basal area (BA), quadratic mean diameter (QMD), precipitation, relative humidity, elevation, percent canopy cover, temperature regime, among others.
